Hi, and thank you for previous hints. Meanwhile I realized that I have to
install the gtk-devel package and I can compile the sane-frontend without
errors.

What I highly recommend is to embed a possibility for displaying the actual
version number(s) of xscanimage and (if possible) the sane-backend,
because it is currently not possible to find out if the older version
(from before) or the new version is running.
(Add a pulldown menu option "help" and place there an option "INFO", which
shows all interesting data, as version number, date and time of
compilation,...)

Also, I am wondering about one point:
I thought that this version (1.0.4) would support transparency options with
snapscan. Well, I see nothing which is different to my old SuSE 6.4
version of xscanimage, if I try it out on my Acer Prisa 620S (without
transparency). Is this a dynamic option which only appears when the scanner
HAS transparency, or should this option be alwys visible somewhere but simply
does not work without transparency?

> What's the version of gtk that is used by SUSE 6.4? Could you post the
