Hello Nicholas,

it seems that the scanner does not respond to some of the very first
inquire commands. It recognized as an HP scanner because otherwise it
would have failed earlier.
Maybe it is a timing problem.

Please try to donwload the hpscan tool from my homepage and build it on
your machine.

If you have build it, set the environment variable SANE_DEBUG_HPSCAN to
128 and
start the command

hpscan /dev/scsi/sc1d5l0 -qerror

and

hpscan /dev/scsi/sc1d5l0 -reset 0 -qerror

and send the output back to me. The latter one will do similar things
like on startup of scanimage.

Sincerely
> Hello Again,

>

> I set the debug levels and got the following debug output from my system

> when running scanimage. All that I get out of the following is that my

> scanner is not responding to the SCL commands correctly (SCL == Scanner

> Command Language, right?). So I am pretty sure that my configuration of

> SANE is OK, but something else is definitely wrong... But like I mentioned

> before, the scanner works fine under (egad) Windoze.
