Hi Bill,

> Hey gang, any update on the availability of sane for the Minolta Scan
> Dual Dimage? It seems to have the best bang for the buck for slide
> scanners.
>
> ...
>
> Also, if Minolta isn't playing ball, please suggest an email or
> postal address where I could send an, "I'd buy your scanner if..."
> letter. Thanks!

> I looked at the supported scanners web page but I didnt see this
> scanner. Any support for it? Anyone working on support for it?
> Could another driver support it? I am interested in picking this
> one up since it has a nice high dpi and its cheap:)

Sigh. I've been in communications with Minolta about getting specs
for their scanners for nearly a year now. About three or four
months ago, they told me they were finally preparing a NDA for
developers to sign, which would be available momentarily.

No news since. Until Minolta releases those specs, a SANE backend
will not be possible.

If Linux support is a priority, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for
a scanner. This one might eventually be supported under Linux, but
probably not anytime soon.

David

David, is there any update on this? If you're not chasing them anymore
could you give us contact details so someone can pick up where you left
off instead of starting from scratch with their local Minolta.

Alternatives are to use WINE to snoop on the SCSI activity of Minolta's
Windows driver.

> I trust everyone is familiar with:
>
> http://www.cix.co.uk/~tsphoto/tech/filmscan/index.htm

No, thanks for that. A UK `Digital Photo FX' magazine ranked the
Minolta Scan Dual Dimage top of the range for its price. That's why
I'm interested in getting one.
