Hi

I have a Nikon Coolscan and am trying to get it to work with SANE.
I've gotten SANE for both Linux & OS/2, and am having the same problem
with each (I think).

On booting, I see the rah rah of the SCSI drivers noticing the device
on the SCSI chain, so the hardware is fine.

e.g. under Linux:

Vendor: Nikon Model: COOLSCANIII Rev: 1.20
Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Detected scsi generic sgd at scsi0, channel 0, id 2, lun 0

I can use find-scanner and I get this:

# find-scanner
find-scanner: found scanner "Nikon COOLSCANIII 1.20" at device /dev/scanner
find-scanner: found scanner "Nikon COOLSCANIII 1.20" at device /dev/sgd

(I think I had to manually link scanner to sgd)
so find-scanner finds something (under both Linux & OS/2)

now, when I use scanimage -L, it only shows the pnm devices, no real devices.

well, I was going to paste that output here, but scanimage is doing
nothing right now... don't know why, but last night under OS/2 it
listed the pnm devices.

I've got all the .conf files in the /usr/local/etc/sane.d directory.
in it is a coolscan.conf:

# cat /usr/local/etc/sane.d/coolscan.conf
scsi Nikon * Scanner
/dev/scanner

Why can't I see the scanner? I've read web pages and man pages and
can't figure out how to get this going.

thanks in advance to any who try to help.
-Craig
