Hi,

[hope you don't mind my bad english]

following situation:

- freshly installed SuSE6.2 Linux distribution
- sane1.0.1 compiled and installed
- NCR850-compatible scsi controller (CI-2520 Fast/2560 Ultra)
- following Hardware:

T| Scanner -------- | Controller | ----- HDD ---- HDD ---- CD-ROM |T
ID=1 ID=7 ID=0 ID=6 ID=3
(T=terminator)

The devices are recognized correctly by the controller. After
booting linux, cat /proc/scsi/scsi says:

baer:~ # cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DNES-309170 Rev: SA30
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: UMAX Model: Astra 1220S Rev: V1.3
Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: TEAC Model: CD-ROM CD-532S Rev: 1.0A
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S65A
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

/dev/scanner is correctly configured (via yast) as a symlink to
/dev/sg1.

When I'm trying to scan (with (x)scanimage), I get the following
debug output:

.
.
.
.
[umax] scanner_ready
[umax] start_scan
[umax] starting scan
[sanei_scsi] scsi_req_enter: entered 0x8056900
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_req_wait: waiting for 0x8056900
[sanei_scsi] sanei_scsi_issue: 0x8056900

After 30s or so, my system hangs up, I have to reboot manually and
do a 10min fsck while booting %-)

I tried now more than ten times; sometimes, the scanhead moves a
little bit, but in the last few tries, it didn't move anymore.
(physically it seems to be ok, after making power off and on the
head recalibrates its position)

A man sane-scsi says that there could be problems with the timeout.
The problem ist a.) I can't set the timeout via the SCSI BIOS config
utility and b.) in ncr53c8xx.c I don't find a np->latetime>10.

Anyone can give me some hints?
