Please don't keep confusing layers with channels. They're different.<br>
As Oliver said, what I wanted is an auxillary _channel_ -- not least<br>
because all the dust-removal tech will probably work in a way which<br>
makes sense done that way. Andreas Rick seems sure that it can be done<br>
"on the fly", but I'm not so keen especially when he talks about 80Mb<br>
of memory -- I doubt my 486 scanner machine will be adequate :(<br>
<p>
It's actually very easy to make this change in XSane, and I'll try to<br>
get on the case if Oliver doesn't beat me to it. There's an associated<br>
change to be made in the Gimp plug-in too.<br>

First though, I need to get a working setup for the LS-30 w/Autofocus<br>
