I have access to an HP IIc with ADF, which I would be pleased to test
any new software with. It's not mine though, so I can't lend it to you
or anything :(

It might be helpful to know that the HP backend provides two SANE
buttons (IIRC) for controlling the ADF. They allow you to run the
top feeder and internal rollers together (replacing the current A4
page with a new A4 page) or run just the internal stuff (unloading
any page inside the scanner).

It would be nice if XSane learnt to use these SANE buttons to provide
a nice ADF interface, and if all backends provided ADF functionality
in a common way, as much as possible.

I don't know how (if at all) the HP backend signals the arrival of
the last sheet of paper, but I could test this and report back if
you like. ISTR that SANE standardises "Feeder Empty" errors...
