Dear listmembers,
being new to this list I would like to ask a question (and appreciate your
help!). I recently bought a Mustek SE 12000SP scanner and successfully got it
work with sane (next to...). I connected it to my Adaptec 2940W controller
rather than to the one that came along with the scanner.
Now here's the next to:
If I use scanimage shortly after a reboot / reset or after xscanimage has been
used, the lamp being still on, everything seems fine. I wrote a little script
to use the scanner directly as a copying machine, called "makecopy". It is
quite simple and effective. Now the problem: if the scanner has been out of use
for a certain amount of time and I try to use my "makecopy"-command, (bulb went
off) the program crashes the scsi-controller due to whatever reason. This does
not occur if I previously use xscanimage to make some preview scan or whatever.
My assumption is that the scanner requires more time than provided to come back
into life, what maybe not be paid attention to from scanimage.

I use sane V1.0.0. My /proc/scsi/scsi file looks as follows:

Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DGVS09U Rev: 03B0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
Vendor: TANDBERG Model: TDC 4100 Rev: =07:
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: TEAC Model: CD-ROM CD-532S Rev: 1.0A
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 04 Lun: 00
Vendor: TEAC Model: CD-R55S Rev: 1.0L
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
Vendor: SCANNER Model: Rev: 2.02
Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 01 CCS

What seems very strange to me, too, is the fact that MUSTEK gives "SCANNER" as
vendor-id and noc Model name - but anyway.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
yours sincerely
