Howdy all,

I've been fighting for a while to figure out how to get my messages on the
list... majordomo seems to have been eating them or something, but i hope this
will get through. I have major reasonable headway with this backend. The
scanner side of things is about half done. Scanning with at a fixed size and
resolution works, I just have to start using the sane parameters and that'll
work. I'm in the middle of a move right now so it'll be a little bit before I
have time again.
-- Here is the message I've tried to post a couple times.

Howdy All,

I have a Relisys Avec 2400, and have been kinda disappointed that there
hasn't been any SANE support for the Relisys line. I did what I could with the
contacting the manufacturer line; I sent a couple emails that were pretty much
ignored. As such I guess the only avenue is to reverse engineer the protocol.

To this end I have acquired a dll for Win9x that logs all scsi commands sent
through the windows aspi layer. To get this for your own projects refer to
http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. I have let the author, Ed Hamrick, know of my
intentions to use his driver for this project, and he is pleased to be able to
contribute back to the SANE project, from which he has learned much on various
scanners.

I guess the main reasons that I'm send this missive is to make sure you all
know about this wonderful tool that would seem to be very useful in leveraging
out info about the closed hardware we have to deal with, and to wonder if
anyone
has any info on what the legal implications of acquiring the information this
way are.

I would also be interested in talking to any other Relisys owners that wish
to
pass along traces of the protocol used in different models in the Relisys line.
My initial goal is obviously getting the support finished for the Avec 2400,
but I'm sure there are various other models I could support without too much
extra work.

Thanks for your time,
