> I have a HP Scanjet 4c I am trying to use under FreeBSD 2.2.8. I have it

Is it possible that you have TOO MUCH termination? Often the external
connector and one internal connector are the same wires, so you only
need termination on one of them. In your case, it would be at the
scanner where the termination goes. I don't think the 1510 has two
separate SCSI busses (if it is like the 1505 or 1542), so there should
only be 2 terminiators involved. Otherwise, you will have erratic
problems with SCSI, and some things will work, while others won't.
