Hi,

>No. There is no technical problem (well - there is one, but none, that
>couldn't be solved with a few lines of code), but a documentation problem.

I see the picture!

>Scanner manufacturers seemingly think, that their parallel port protocols
>are so stupid that everyone would laugh at them for decades, if they
>would give them out.

That's a big problem... If even they were to developped drivers for other
such things that Win95...

>And it is pretty enervating work to reverse engineer any protocol. The

I suppose it is! But, if I'm not mistaken, the process or something very
similar has been done for the Zip drive. I beleave that a driver exist for
this one, so I suppose that it can be done also on a scanner, except if the
Zip protocol as been made public...

>problem is probably, that it takes a real freak to do that, and real
>freaks tend to use SCSI anyway.

I should have bought that in the fisrt place, but the price was so low...
:)) And in fact I'm not using my scan a lot, so...

>That are the main reasons, why parallel scanners are not supported as well
>as SCSI ones in SANE.

I understand that there is a lot to do for drivers on Linux :((. Mabe
companie will distribute drivers soon, Intel and Netscape have invest in
Linux RedHat, so maybe one day soon others will get in teh moon of
anti-Microsoft investment!

Bye
