>>>>> On Sun, 13 Dec 1998 20:46:21 +0100 (MET), Petter Reinholdtsen <pere@hungry.com> said:

Petter> I beleave a centralised version control system (CVS) would speed up
Petter> SANE development and make it easier to "outsiders" (me) to follow the
Petter> current progress of SANE.

Petter> I suggest the following:

Petter> - A CVS server with write access to the ones currently maintaining
Petter> the source, and read access to all
Petter> - All change to the source generate a mail sent to a new mailinglist
Petter> (sane-cvs@mostang.com ?).
Petter> - Every day a source snapshot is extracted, wrapped up and made
Petter> available on FTP

Are you volunteering to run and maintain this? If the regular
developers express a strong interest in this, I'm willing to do this.
However, I'd want to keep the list of people with write access very
short. Not to prevent from people from contributing to SANE, but to
ensure that all submissions are reviewed by someone who has
demonstrated a longstanding committment and understanding of SANE.

Petter> Any comments? Any reason this has not been done earlier?

Lack of necessity? Note that SANE is very different from other
projects because it is primarily an API. If you work on
backend/frontend X, the need for having the latest and greatest
version of backend/frontend Y is virtually non-existent.

Petter> BTW: Someone should add december to
Petter> <URL:http://www.mostang.com/sane/mail.html>. :-)

Thanks. I thought I had done that, but it seems to have slipped
through the cracks. It's fixed now.
