I have an hp photosmart C5100A, and I'm trying to use it with
Linux (2.1.131, redhat 5) and
sane-1.00 (ftp://rufus.w3.org/linux/contrib/libc6/i386/sane-1.00-1.i386.rpm)

Scans of slides are coming out too dark. I found a couple of
similar reports on DejaNews, but the only recommended fix was to use
the new hp backend. As far as I can tell, the new backend was completely
incorporated into sane-1.00, so that shouldn't be my problem.

Any suggestions for things to try or possible fixes would be appreciated.

Thanks for the great work!
John Salmon
