Hi !

> > I am working on a TWAIN interface to SANE. I expect to have a trial version
> > ready on 15th December. I'll announce it on this list and put it up for
> > download.

> How will it work? I have an old sheet feed scanner that is TWAIN
> compliant, well as far as I know. Will this software know to access
> the port correctly?

No - If I got the mail correctly, he is trying the other way round. That is
making a TWAIN module (which can be called from TWAIN-aware frontends),
that will call SANE (via network protocol ?) internally.

That is, you could then access SANE data sources from Windoze TWAIN apps,
but not vice versa.

The other way round is IMHO at least _VERY_ hard, I actually think
impossible to do. TWAIN includes the visual representation (what we call the
frontend) in the driver, so we would need the full expected environment
(i.e. Windows) available, and we still couldn't make SANE option descriptors
from what the TWAIN driver does. I myself have sometimes big problems to find
out what a particular button in one of those silly "cockpits" or whatever
style the developer chose for the scanner dialog does what.

But being able to scan remotely from windows would help me or rather those
people here in the net, that don't understand Unix, a great deal (it
would alleviate the need for a CGI script on my server).
So the developers can be sure, that there are people out that that would be
very grateful, when they make it.

CU, Andy
