> UMAX doesn't release programming documentation for their parallel port
> scanners, but that's only becuase they think (doh!) that they have
> made the parallel port do magic that no one else in the universe could
> figure out.

Not quite, they feel they have developed a fancy ASIC for controlling
scanners over the parallel port. The problem is that the only copy of
the parallel port protocol is bound in with the ASIC design, which
the do want to protect, they also appear to have licensed the ASIC
design to other scanner manufactures.

Frankly anyone wanting to use an ASIC that only does SPP and EPP modes
needs their heads examining. Yes that's right no ECP support and not
even any PS/2 support.
