Greetings Bernd and other SANErs,

I'm interested in purchasing a SANE-capable scanner and am unsure if
the Microtek X6EL (currently my first choice) will work. Does anyone
have any reports of whether or not the microtek2 backend works with
that model? This is the only information I could find in the list
archives:

Hi,

Ok. Provided that the X6 uses the SCSI-2 command set, the microtek(2)
backend should support this model. Version 0.3 of the backend that will
be distributed with the next release of sane has some preliminary support
for scanners with more than 8 bit per color output data (like the X6).

However, this functionality is *completely* untested, so I suppose that
it won't work at the first go. To my knowledge this is the first time
that someone wants to to use this model with sane.

To sum up: It is intended to support such scanners, but I doubt that
it works at present without flaws. If someone has already an X6 and
tries to use it with sane: I am interested in any trace/debug information.

If continued development of the microtek2 driver is planned I may be
able to help with testing (on Solaris 2.6), tho' both my programming
background and knowledge of scanner technology are minimal. Or might
I be better off playing conservative and getting the older Microtek E6
instead?

Also, I'm trying to get a borrowed E3 to work and am stuck at:

sjk@shimmer# env SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_SCSI=128 SANE_DEBUG_MICROTEK=128 scanimage -
L -v
[sanei_init_debug]: Setting debug level of microtek to 128.
[microtek] sane_exit...
[microtek] sane_exit: MICROTEK says goodbye.

I had similar non-results when testing a UMAX 1220S.

But `cdrecord', which uses the scg driver, recognizes the device:

sjk@shimmer# cdrecord -debug -inq dev=2,0
Cdrecord release 1.6 Copyright (C) 1995-1998 J<>rg Schilling
TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM
scsidev: '2,0'
Device type : Scanner
Version : 4
Response Format: 1
Vendor_info : ' 'Identifikation : 'Scanner '
Revision : '1.40'
Device seems to be: Microtek MS300A.

Am I overlooking something obvious to get SANE backends working with
scg? Thanx for any advice. Aloha,
