Being fed up with all kinds of Windows, I am about to switch to Linux. But<br>
|
|
as a novice, I run into problems using the scanner. Some time ago I read<br>
|
|
that few scanners only work with Linux, and one of the reasonably priced<br>
|
|
ones listed was Mustek. That's why I bought a 12000SP.<br>
|
|
<p>
|
|
I made it work with xscanimage and gimp, the only problem is that color<br>
|
|
scans look like a TV screen with a broken antenna: There are false-color<br>
|
|
horizontal lines over the whole picture. One thing that irritates me is<br>
|
|
that while scanning the lamp moves like a pilgrim: one step forward, stop,<br>
|
|
half step backward and so on. That takes a lot of time and does not sound<br>
|
|
normal - it did not do this under Windows...<br>
|
|
<p>
|
|
Checking the SANE Webpage, I found that the 12000SP f/w 1.02 may have a<br>
|
|
color problem, and, because my permanent companion is Murphy, I have a<br>
|
|
1.02... My cry for help therefore is: Is there any way (new software<br>
|
|
versions etc.) to make that 1.02 behave as it is supposed to? Is a firmware<br>
|
|
upgrade possible? Or do I really have to buy a new scanner?<br>
|
|

|
|
I would appreciate any suggestions because I need the system for my job.<br>
|
|
