>
> Just wanted to follow up on this... I recently changed my SCSI card
> from the Adaptec 2940UW to a dual-channel Symbios 786 chipset. When I
> started up SANE with your driver, I managed to scan line art drawings
> okay, but Gray16 scans led to a stream of SCSI error messages on the
> console, ultimately hanging with a message saying the scanner wasn't
> releasing the SCSI bus.
>
> This may be that the Symbios is simply less tolerant of ancient
> hardware, or may be bugs in your driver or in SANE itself...
Ouaou! Imagine that. Now I know what the command RELEASE is for. Sadly I
don't know how to use it. I suppose you have more than one device in the
SCSI don't you? Unfortunately I have only one so I can't really test the
possible race conditions...

I would very much appreciate if your comments were redirected to the
SANE mailing list so we can get some feedback.

SANE mailing list is not a heavy one (about 15 mails per day) but you
don't have to subscribe. If you send mails to

sane-devel@mostang.com

and you don't forget to put on Cc: yourself you hopefully you get all
the interesting answers.

Currently there is another person who tried to use the backend but
unfortunately he has a OneScanner (256 shades of Gray). I hope that I
will be able to help both of you with one development effort after july
8.

About the documentation issue I haven't decided yet. I think the best
thing is to write it by myself since I am the author (and the one to
blame). However I would be more than happy if you could possibly revised
it since my english are not so much polished.

Also I posted this mail reply to the SANE list in order to get some
feedback. I hope it is allright with you. So let's go public.

Dear SANE developers/advanced users

-Should a backend release a SCSI bus? and when?

-What's is the "official" Sane backend documentation format? Man Page?

Milon

PS
I HOPE I haven't screwed everything with the mail replies and forward
addresses. In case I did I am sorry...
