Sylvester> Hi does anybody know this funny (??) phenomenon?

Sylvester> Two times after experimenting with my new scanner and
Sylvester> sane, files in the source tree for the linux-kernel
Sylvester> (/usr/src/linux) became garbled. The first time a .h-file
Sylvester> in /usr/linux/include was truncated. The second time the
Sylvester> main makefile was truncated. Running the fsck after
Sylvester> rebooting to single user mode showed no errors.

There was a small bug in the HP backend that could cause this (changes
are small though). To be on the safe side, try commenting out all
backends except the ones you really want to use (mustek, I presume).
Look in /usr/local/etc/saned/dll.conf. The configuration file is
documented in sane-dll(5).

Sylvester> BTW: The SCANEXPRESS 12000 currently isn't supportet by
Sylvester> sane, or is it?

Nope, I'm afraid not.
