Yes. This is the common case. Only a few very new boards/chipsets are prepared<br>
to have a 10:10:10 mapping for 30 bits precision.<br>
<p>
However there exist 16 bit greyscale systems for medical image processing<br>
(X rays) and a few 3x16=48 bit systems used for similar purposes.<br>
<p>
However I'd start worrying about those when we come across them. SANE<br>
is able to read &gt;8bpp data from the device, so ...<br>
