Hi there. I'm pretty new to SANE (using version 0.72 with a Umax Astra<br>

1200S scanner).<br>

I am unclear as to what each of the following options does. (The tool<br>
|
||
tips aren't particularly enlightening; neither is the man page). Can<br>
|
||
anyone explain what each of these items does, what the benefits of using<br>
|
||
it are, etc.?<br>
|
||

||
10-bit mode<br>
|
||
quality calibration<br>
|
||
bind RGB<br>
|
||
use custom gamma table<br>
|
||
<p>
|
||
Advanced settings:<br>
|
||
slow speed<br>
|
||
smear<br>

||
preview patch<br>

start-scan patch<br>

||

||
Also, what settings do you folks recommend, to get the best quality scans?<br>
|
||
Right now, my scans are coming out kind of dark, with a bit too much red<br>
|
||
in them (I have to use GIMP's color balance tool to get the red out).<br>

||
