> >Is there any support for a UMAX Astra 610P scanner that uses
> >the parallel port ?
>
> No, and I don't think there will be one soon!
>
> Sorry
>
> Bye Oliver

Bug Umax, they are not adverse to giving the information out, but the
only documention also has details of some custom ASIC that UMAX have
designed for controlling parallel port scanners, and they think it
is the buisness and needs to be kept under wraps, hence the won't release
the information. Bug them enough and they might get round to producing
a copy with the ASIC info striped out.

Other than that don't buy a Umax parallel port scanner as they are crap,
with only support for SPP and EPP modes, that's right no PS2 and no ECP.
Given that ECP is the best mode for a scanner, and they can't manage PS2.
Also they have a next generation 620 model in the pipeline.

Frankly if I had designed the 600P/610P parallel port interface I would
not admit to the fact the design is so dire.
