Really, a piece of hardware that allows software commands to cause<br>
hardware failure, is broken already. The Umax scanners seem to be<br>
badly designed in this respect. <br>
<p>
Make sure that you test the "new software" inside the warranty period.<br>
The manufacturer cannot prove that their driver didn't make a mistake.<br>
(A bit flipped in main memory).<br>
