Aha! I just noticed this note on the list:

> It seems that there is a bug in either the Sane SCSI driver or Linux
> AdvanSys SCSI driver. I got a mail form Peter Daum indicating that is
> Astra 1200S worked fine with a NCR 810 SCSI card, so I did some
> digging in
> my pockets and found a old 810 card. Now every thing is working fine!!
>
> Yours Olof S Kylander

I have an Advansys SCSI card, and it has worked fine with both the Microtek
E6 and my Travan tape drive under Windows 3.1, but I have had problems with
both devices under Linux (with large files written to tape, or large scans,
there are some garbled bytes. This was true both before and after I changed
the default 32768 bytes buffer size in the generic SCSI device). It looks
very much like the Advansys SCSI driver for Linux is bad. This is
unfortunate since Advansys actually lists "Linux" as a supported OS on
their retail boxes. Hmph! Back to the store, I guess.
