Nem> Hello all, I just joined the list today, and read through the
Nem> archive of previous messages. I just purchased a Scanpaq
Nem> SQ2400 (the same thing as a MicroTek E3), and am currently
Nem> working on getting Jan Schoenepauck's mtekscan program to work
Nem> on my SGI (basically just to see if the thing works, which I
Nem> don't know yet!). I noticed a message by Jeremy Rosenberger
Nem> saying that he was working (or planning to work) on a MicroTek
Nem> E3 backend - how is that coming along Mr. Rosenberger? I'm
Nem> hoping to help with the completion of this backend, as well as
Nem> getting the genscsi code ported over to the dslib (SCSI) stuff
Nem> on my SGI. I also have access to some RS/6000s and Digital
Nem> UNIX machines that I can try to port the scsi code over to
Nem> those as well. I hope I'm coming off as enthusiastic, because
Nem> I am!

Well, after a day of extreme hacking on SANE, you just made my
day. ;-)

I'll let Jeremy answer your question regarding the E3 backend.
Regarding genscsi: yes, it would definitively be great to have
equivalent support on other machines (note that it got renamed to
"sanei_scsi" in pre0.53---sanei stands for "SANE-internal"). SANE
certainly is meant for all Unix flavors, not just Linux and it
shouldn't be too hard to port things over.

Nem> PS - I've been in contact with one of the SGI printer/scanner
Nem> device driver programmers, mentioned the SANE project, and it
Nem> seemed like he was interested in maybe helping out some.

That would be cool indeed! The more backends, the merrier!
